Dr. Applonie graduated summa cum laude from Idaho Falls High School in 2003. He then attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he received a bachelor of science in Business Management with an emphasis in entrepreneurship in 2009. With a desire to utilize his business skills in medicine, he received his medical degree from AT Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2013.
Orthopedic Joint Surgery Experience
Dr. Applonie completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in 2018 at Michigan State University-McLaren Macomb Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, providing him a strong background in general orthopaedics. He served as the chief resident during his final year of residency. With a continued interest in complex shoulder and elbow surgery, Dr. Applonie completed his shoulder and elbow fellowship in 2019, working with and learning from leaders in the field, Dr. Theodore Blaine M.D. and Dr. Gus Mazzocca M.D. During the fellowship year, he learned shoulder replacement techniques for both the active and the elderly, arthroscopic repairs of athletic and work-related injuries of the rotator cuff and labrum and elbow procedures from ligament reconstruction to elbow replacements.
